President Obama’s cabinet members do little to boost his popularity, a Harris Poll revealed. His cabinet members generally got mediocre or weak job ratings. For example, less than half adults are familiar with Defense Secretary Robert Gates (43 percent) and only 41 percent are familiar with Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.

Most people were familiar with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (83 percent) and Vice President Joe Biden (63 percent). The Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was also amongst the most recognized with 66 percent.

The people in the survey gave Secretary of State Hillary Clinton positive ratings of 50 percent and a 33 percent negative rating. Vice President Joe Biden was given a 32 percent positive rating with a 36 percent negative rating. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was given a positive rating of 21 percent and a negative rating of 45 percent.

Congress had more than twice as many critics–69 percent–than admirers (31 percent).

The nationwide, online study consisted of 2,681 people. Factors of age, sex and ethnicity were weighted to mirror the United States population.
