What do young girls really think about the Rihanna and Chris Brown incident? A survey released by Girl Scouts of the USA states that 95 percent of girls surveyed said that Chris Brown’s alleged violence against Rihanna is not acceptable or justifiable for any reason. Forty-eight percent believe that low self-esteem will be the primary reason that Rihanna would go back to him.

Girl Scouts of the USA also revealed that 59 percent of girls hold Chris Brown responsible for what happened, while a little over 30 percent blame both.

“Girls are now telling us loud and clear - it is not OK to hit a woman,” says Tina Wells, CEO of Buzz Marketing Group, who also commissioned the study. “That doesn’t mean they don’t sympathize with both parties. The girls are looking at the situation from all angles and understand that no one knows what really happened. They like Chris Brown–he is an idol for younger girls–and it was hard for them to believe at first.”

The study also found that younger girls, under 13 years of age, were more likely to blame Rihanna for the alleged abuse. And 45 percent believe that Rihanna could have provoked Chris Brown.

The nationwide survey questioned 420 girls, who were not necessarily Girl Scouts, from the ages of 8-17.

Girl Scouts of the USA is a leadership development organization for girls with over three-million members worldwide. They pride themselves on building character and confidence in its girls. Visit www.GirlScouts.org for more information.
